As part of the post-war reconstruction of central Beirut, an international landscape planning competition was held throughout the historic center. The tasks included designing public spaces from large landscapes to lighting, structural panels, square designs, pedestrian street designs, comprehensive afforestation and flowering schemes, the construction of nurseries, a cultural identification system, and the recreation of archaeological sites with a history of 4000 years. The uniqueness of the cross-cultural approach proposed in collaboration with UNESCO archaeologists is the integration of archaeological excavations into the planning of urban parks and gardens.
