The confluence area of the two rivers in Lyon is the central area of the city. The site, left behind due to industrial relocation, faces serious pollution issues and is enclosed by rivers, highways, and railways, creating a closed-off area. The Trimelo team transformed the site into a well-connected area by introducing trams and creating corridors that pass through the train station. They also revitalized the yacht marina and introduced vibrant businesses to increase foot traffic. Finally, they removed chemical pollution organically through plant root systems, turning the site into the most beautiful urban center in Lyon. This is one of the most compelling cases of urban renewal in France, representing a classic example of an open block, and it has made this area the highest-priced region in Lyon today. Interestingly, although the population in the area has tripled since the renovation, the use of high-tech methods such as solar panels on facades has actually reduced carbon emissions compared to before the renovation.
